Marcella Foundation & Lift Literature Donate 63 Kindles to Sierra House Elementary through it’s BookMode program

The Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature have joined forces to bring the joy of reading to second graders at Sierra House Elementary School. Through this join initiative, BookMode, the organizations aim to cultivate a lifelong passion for learning by providing each child with their very own Kindle Paperwhite and Bluetooth headset.

BookMode's Mission

BookMode, born as a partnership between the Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature, is on a mission to help children become young, enthusiastic readers who will carry this passion into adulthood. By equipping each child in a classroom with a Kindle Paperwhite and a Bluetooth headset, BookMode seeks to create an immersive reading experience. Every Kindle comes with a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, offering access to a vast library of books in both English and Spanish. Each kindle also has a wide array of audiobooks for kids.

The Pilot Program at Sierra House Elementary School

Sierra House Elementary School in South Lake Tahoe, California, serves as the launchpad for BookMode's pilot program. Our vision is to continue this program annually and expand to other elementary schools in the area if it proves successful. The initiative is making waves, with some impressive statistics emerging after the first week of the program.

Kindle Usage Statistics (Week 1)

  • Total Pages Read: 15.2k

  • Total Hours Read: 74.4

  • Total Books Finished: 64

We’re hoping that BookMode at Sierra House Elementary School demonstrates the transformative power of providing children with the tools and resources to ignite a love for reading. The collaboration between the Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature serves as an example of how partnerships can create a positive impact on the lives of young learners. As these second graders embark on a literary journey with their Kindles, the Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature would like to invite volunteers and organizations in the community to join them on this journey. Please reach out if you’re interested in joining our early childhood literacy network! melissa@marcellafoundation.org
