  • ReadingPals is a local, community-based reading program of the Marcella Foundation providing elementary aged children an opportunity for success through one-on-one reading sessions with a committed volunteer. We are piloting the ReadingPals community framework that has a proven track record of success at at Chico Unified School District for the past decade.

  • A pilot program is a small version of a potentially transformative idea that we are testing out to see it can scale for broader impact. We are thrilled to pilot this idea at Tahoe Valley Elementary School and welcome your feedback and input a we see if a community based reading pal program is helpful for our local schools.

  • ReadingPals was designed with the “bubble kids” in mind - students who could really use some extra support to help them read at grade level, but who are not receiving intervention services. We know that these students often slip through the cracks and will experience tremendous benefit from individualized attention from a caring adult.

  • ReadingPals will occur every Tuesday starting January 21st during library.

    • Students who have library on Tuesday at 8:15am, 9:00am or 1:00pm

    • “Bubble Kids” or students that could use an extra boost in reading

    • Are 6 months - 2 years behind in reading

    • Are not in reading intervention

    • Do not have an IEP

  • Simply fill out this form below. We will confirm the final list with Mr. Harnett, and will begin pulling these students regularly during library time to read with them in the STEM Room.
